Hearts of Kindness: A Ramp Build for a Local Veteran
Hearts of Kindness: A Ramp Build for a Local Veteran
At Tri-Cities Habitat for Humanity, we believe that a strong community is built on compassion, service, and coming together for a greater purpose. One of our recent projects was a perfect example of that spirit in action.
As part of a special effort we called “Hearts of Kindness,” a group of dedicated Care-A-Vanners traveled from across the country to lend their time, tools, and talents to serve a local veteran in need.
A New Ramp, A Renewed Sense of Freedom
The recipient of this project was Mr. Gardner, a veteran whose aging ramp had become unsafe and unreliable. Over one week, our Care-A-Vanner crew worked side-by-side with local volunteers to remove and rebuild a sturdy, accessible ramp, restoring safety, mobility, and peace of mind to Mr. Gardner and his family.
This wasn’t just a project—it was a gift of independence and dignity for someone who has served our country.
Who Are the Care-A-Vanners?
The Care-A-Vanners are a group of Habitat for Humanity RV volunteers who travel the country donating their time to building and repairing homes. For this project, we were honored to welcome volunteers from Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, and even Hawaii!
They gave two weeks of their time to Tri-Cities Habitat—one week dedicated to Mr. Gardner’s ramp replacement, and the second week devoted to supporting our ongoing new home build. Their energy, enthusiasm, and big hearts were nothing short of inspiring.
More Than a Build—It’s a Movement
Projects like this serve as a powerful reminder that when people come together with kindness and purpose, lives are transformed. We’re incredibly grateful to the Care-A-Vanners for showing up with open hearts and skilled hands. Their commitment to service not only helped Mr. Gardner but also brought renewed energy and hope to our entire Habitat family.
To all who participated, thank you for being a part of the Habitat mission. Your generosity has made a lasting impact on our community.
